Associating and delivery apparatus; cutting-apparatus. - Relates to a sheet-collecting cylinder or carrier for associating sheets as delivered from printing and like machines, of the kind provided with auxiliary grippers which hold the sheets already collected in correct position while additional sheets are being superposed on these sheets. The cylinder co-operates with a device which positively positions the sheets, and the cutting- arrangements may be so constructed that the sheet is completely severed just prior to the time that the leading end of the next sheet is taken by the sheettaking grippers. As shown in Fig. 2, a cylinder 1 is fitted with three sets of taking-grippers 10 for holding sheets delivered by a cutting-cylinder 3, which coacts with a similar cylinder and is provided with suction ports 9 which hold the cut sheet on the cylinder 3 until it is to be released to be taken by the grippers 10. The grippers 10 are mounted on shafts 11 operated by crank-arms 13, rollers 14, and cams 16 to open the grippers at the correct time to take a sheet. The grippers close on the sheets by the action of spring arms 15 on crank arms 12 on the shafts 11. During the time the grippers 10 are open, the sheets are held by grippers 26 carried by blocks 22 on hubs 28 of shafts 29 carried by lever arms 30 on shafts 31, which are rocked by cams acting on crank arms on the shafts 31. When the grippers 10 have seized the sheets, the grippers 26 are released from the sheets by first giving them a rotational movement by rotating the shaft 29 by means of a cam 40, crank-arm 35, freely - mounted sector 34, and a sector 33 fixed to the shaft 29. The arm 30 is then moved outwards by rotating the shaft 31 as described above, and the grippers 26 are then in position to again engage the sheets, which they do, under the action of springs, when released from their cams. The grippers 10 remain closed during the greater portion of each revolution, but at each fourth revolution, they are opened by a swinging cam 17 to allow a tucking-blade 24 to tuck the sheets into geared folding-jaws 23, which are operated by cam-and-sector mechanism to close on the tucked sheet. The sheet that is being taken by the grippers 10 may be correctly positioned by blades 43 projected from the cylinder 3 by cam, sector, and rack mechanism. As shown in Fig. 5, the web or webs acted on by the cylinders 3 are only partially severed by these cylinders, and a knife 53 on the cylinder 1 coacts with the cylinder 3 to complete the severing. Suction or other carriers on the cylinder 3 are thus rendered unnecessary.
