Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for. - Relates to means for preventing the leakage of gas along the shaft driving the indicating-mechanism of a fluid meter. The said shaft a is formed with a collar c engaging a seating in a gland-like p a r t d and pressed thereon by packing e. A vulcanite or other non-corrodible ring i is secured to the shaft, rotates in contact with the gland d, and receives grease escaping from the packing e. In wet gas-meters a tube may depend into the liquid and form a liquid seal. The shaft a may be divided as shown to allow relative longitudinal movement of its two parts.
