Abstract
6762. Schiller, B. March 18, 1910, [Convention date]. Testing physical qualities of materials.-In an hydraulic machine the base of the cylinder a and the upper part of the ram b are formed with cylindrical surfaces, and provision is made for carrying gripping-heads by which the ordinary tension and compression tests of specimens in the form of rods may be carried out. The base of the cylinder is arranged to rest in a U-shaped frame A, the upper part M of which carries the lower gripping-head K<1>. From a head-piece B above the ram cylindrical members D<1>, D<2> pass upwards freely through apertures in the frame A and carry a supporting-piece E for the upper gripping-head K<2>. A specimen P is shown in position for a tension test. For compression tests the specimen is placed between the head-piece of the ram at R and the underside L of the top of the frame.
