5269. Milligan, H., and Board, A. V. March 2. Plastic compositions containing starch &c.- A material applicable for stopping, filling, &c. consists of flour of manioc or like root, treated with hydrofluoric acid or one of its compounds, for example, ammonium fluoride. In an example, finely ground ammonium fluoride is mixed with the finely ground root purified from cellulose by sifting, both preferably being dry; when the fluoride has acted on the starch sufficiently long, a product capable of being gelatinized with hot water is obtained. In use the material so prepared may be mixed with sago flour, dextrin, &c. and a preservative, for example mercuric chloride, formaldehyde, or phenol.
