5170. Overbeck, O. G. C. L. J. March 1. Alcoholic liquors, distilling; bulk evaporators.- An apparatus for separating alcohol from liquids, such as beer, distillers' wort, &c., by passing carbon dioxide through the liquid, consists of a series of vessels b immersed in a water tank a, and connected to a condenser s, pump e, and gasometer d. In operation, one of the vessels is filled with liquid, and gas is passed into it, through a glass sight-tube f<1> and an inlet pipe i extending to the bottom of the vessel, and is then passed through each vessel in series. When froth appears in the sight-tube l leading to the condenser and pump, the direction of the gas current through the series of vessels is reversed until froth appears in the sight-tube f<1>. The vessels b are fitted with perforated disks to break the liquid into froth. One of tte vessels, or a separate vessel outside the tank, may contain a perforated basket containing materials to impart flavour to the gas. A coil f for heating the liquid or gas before entering the vessels b is provided. The liquid inlet is fitted with a strainer.
