Abstract

3741. Bufton, D. Feb. 14. Catch gear of mine-cage type.-Safety suspension apparatus for pit cages, hoists, lifts. &c. comprises a rotary disk or roller adapted to be brought into contact with one of the guides. when the cage is unsupported, the roller being geared to a cam grip, which is rotated thereby so as to clutch the guide and sustain the cage. The roller j and cam e are mounted on spindles in a casing g, which is adapted to slide on inclined guides on the cage, and is normally pressed down against the influence of springs by a lever r coupled to the hoisting- cable. The spindle of the roller j carries a worm engaging a worm-wheel mounted on a threaded vertical rod n, the lower end of which is provided with rack teeth engaging a pinion q on the cam spindle. In the event of the hoisting-cable breaking, the casing g is raised by springs so that the roller j is brought into contact with the guide b and rotated. The gearing transmits the motion to the cam e, which is gradually turned into the gripping position. The initial position of the cam e may be adjusted by a key fitting on the square end of the roller spindle.
