Abstract

3739. Kalous, A. Feb. 14. Resistance to propulsion, reducing.-Relates to devices of the type in which rollers 5 are mounted in a casing 2, 3 on the hull, the casing being partly covered in front so that the water strikes the rollers tangentially. According to the present invention, the rollers and casing are mounted within a recess formed in the hull of the boat. Frames 2, 3 line the recess in the hull, and are secured by bolts passing through lugs 4. The rollers 5 are mounted on shafts 6, and are protected in front by plates 7. In a modification, more than one row of rollers are employed, and journal boxes 13, Fig. 7, carrying ball bearings 11 are interposed between the rollers 10 and the frames 2, 3.
