Abstract

2772. Rogerson, A. C., and Halstead, A. F. March 25. Casting-machines; casting processes; moulds.-A gradually increasing air pressure is applied to a casting as it is setting, the surface of the metal in the head being kept liquid by means of a layer of charcoal, sand, or the like. After the mould has been filled and the layer of sand &c. c added, the gate b is closed by a cover d having a tube g through which air under pressure is introduced and having a safety-valve h to which weight, k can be added to increase the pressure on the metal.
