Abstract

569. Johnson, G. W., [Vereinigte Chininfabriken Zimmer & Co.]. Jan. 9. Hydro-cinchona alkaloids are prepared by the action of hydrogen upon cinchona alkaloids in the presence of a colloidal solution of a metal of the platinum group. In an example palladium dichloride and gum arabic dissolved in water are treated with hydrogen until the liquid becomes of a deep black colour, quinine hydrochloride is added, and the treatment with hydrogen continued until the theoretical quantity has been absorbed. Hydroquinidine, hydrocinchonine, and hydrocinchonidine can be similarly produced.
