Abstract

30,173. Davison, V. H. Dec. 29. Roundabouts.-In a roundabout, cars 32 are suspended at the outer ends of arms 17 pivoted at their inner ends to a collar 13 which can rotate freely on the central shaft 6. The arms 17 are connected by other arms 19 with a threaded collar 21 which screws on a threaded portion of the central shaft and is attached to a spider engaged by guide-beams 24 secured to a platform 8. The platform 8 is mounted on wheels 9, and is geared with a driving-shaft. A second driving shaft 40 gears with the central shaft 6 and rotates it independently of the platform. In operation, the platform 8 is locked against rotation while the cars are loading. When the cars are full the central shaft is rotated to raise the collar 21, and consequently the cars, and the cars are then forced to rotate about the central shaft by the rotation of the platform 8.
