Abstract

29,935. Coke Oven Construction Co., and Marr, J. Dec. 23. Drawings to Specification. Ammonia; ammonium sulphate.-In order to avoid the production of effluent liquors during the treatment of distillation gases, the liquor obtained by cooling the gases to effect a complete separation of the tar, is evaporated to dryness after the separation of the tar and the vapours are passed to an ammonium-sulphate saturator. In carrying out the process, the gases are cooled to 15-35‹ C. to separate the whole of the tar and practically all the water, and, after the separation of the benzole if desired and without reheating, the resulting gases are passed into an ammonium-sulphate saturator. The vapours produced by the evaporation of the ammoniacal liquor, as referred to above, are treated in a separate saturator, care being taken that their temperature is maintained so high that condensation of water is avoided. Or these gases may be mixed with a part or the whole of the main gases, and treated in the same saturator.
