Impact pulverizers.-The stationary drum b of a breaking or disintegrating machine having rapidly revolving swinging hammers k and impact plates n, is surrounded by a revolving sifting-drum v provided with internal buckets t to return the coarse particles to the mill. The broken material falls through an opening d in the lower part of the drum b, and the buckets t deliver through an opening c at the upper part of the drum. The screen v is fitted with rollers u which run on rails r at the upper ends of flanges a on the end walls f of the drum b, and is slowly revolved by a belt passing round the crown x. Sifting-grates y, z are arranged beneath the inlet openings e in the end walls f. The hammers are mounted on cross-bolts l between disks h on a hub on the shaft g, and may consist of an outer toothed part pivoted to an inner part. In a modification, the screen is driven by chain gearing from the shaft g, and the buckets consist of two angular parts of sheet metal bent so that the material is delivered at both sides into openings in the end walls of the mill.
