Abstract

Cleaning by compressing and distorting tubes. -Tubes are cleaned by compressing them first in one direction and then in another direction until the scale &c. is dislodged and removed by the distortion produced, by means of suitable rollers a, b arranged vertically and horizontally as shown in Fig. 2, or by a series of rollers, or by an eccentric block driven by a shaft and adapted to press the tubes as the tubes are turned by hand. The rollers are provided with gear-wheels, and the compression applied is not sufficient to prevent the tubes from springing back to their original form.
