Abstract

26,977. Downes, A. E. Nov. 21. Ladders are prevented from slipping along eaves, gutters, window sills, &c. by extensible spring clips, consisting of two metal pieces A, B, provided with hooked ends D, F, and sliding on each other within the coils of a spring C. The hooked end D engages a part of the ladder, and the hooked end F is retained in the gutter by a spiked, roughened, or leather or rubber covered plate or enlargement G, fixed to, or made integral with, the turned-down part of the hook. In a modified construction for use on ladders resting against window sills, the piece B is formed with a finger-plate F, and a hook F' which engages an eye J secured to the window frame.
