Abstract

Rope grips. - Relates to gripping - apparatus applicable primarily for preventing the falling of mine cages &c., but stated to be applicable as a haulage clip, of the kind in which an extensible chain of links or a coil envelopes the rope. The invention consists in so arranging the grip that the free end of the coil or chain is brought initially into engagement with the rope, the subsequent extension of the grip bringing it into full engagement. The free end of the chain of links is pivoted on a bolt 10<Î> to a loose casing 17, and the other end 7 is pivoted within a tube 12. The operating-lever 9 is also pivoted on the bolt 10<Î> and its gripping-arm envelopes the rope 1. When the lever 9 is tilted into engagement with the rope 1 and the cage 2 continues to move, the chain of links is extended and each link grips the rope. The hinge-pins of the links are fitted with gripping-cams 11, and a cross pin 18 forms an abutment for the upper link.
