Composite shoes are made of papier mÔchÚ, through the centre of which is arranged a sinuous metal strip f having its lower edge flush with the lower surf a c e of the shoe. Countersunk apertures g are provided for the nails, the inner and outer surfaces d, e may be perpendicular or inclined, and the heels may be turned down in the usual manner. The metal strip may be introduced in the moulding operation, or may be impressed after the shoe leaves the mould. The edge of the metal strip projects from the papier mÔchÚ, which wears away more quickly, and thus prevents slipping.
