Pneumatic collectors. -Relates to machines for collecting the ears and stalks of corn, weed seeds, and destructive insects, and consists in providing a vehicular frame, an air-current generator, a suction nozzle arranged to accommodate itself to uneven ground, and a separator in the path of the air current, with or without a blowing- nozzle in front of the suction nozzle. The frame 8 is carried by front wheels 9 and rear wheels 10, the latter being mounted in pivoted arms 8<a> linked to the nozzle 3 and to arms 8<c> carried by a cross-bar 8<d> which is adjustable in slots 8<e> for adjusting the nozzles relatively to the ground. An additional wheel may be provided as indicated in Fig. 1 by dotted lines. A motor 11 drives a blower 1 having a partly flexible suction pipe 2 which terminates in a wide nozzle 3 provided with an orifice having its plane inclined to the ground. The delivering-conduit 4 is partly flexible, and is fitted with a separator 5 and a blowing-nozzle 6. Both nozzles 3, 6 can rock about pivots on the links 8<b>. The separator contains sieves, baffles, &c. for deflecting solids into a sack 7 resting on supports 12. It may be arranged to separate stones, weeds, &c. from corn. The vehicle may be propelled by the motor or drawn by animals. Fig. 4 shows a suction nozzle which may be used without a blowing-nozzle. The lower parts of the front and rear walls of the wide head 3a consist of series of independently movable hinged flaps 13, 14 shaped as shown. The flaps may be ridged, and may be separated' by vertical partitions. They are adjustable vertically by chains 15, 16 wound on spindles 17, 18 provided with crank handles and ratchets. Fig. 8 shows a wide-mouthed casing 3b having a series of independent nozzles hinged to it at 23 and provided with trailing hinged flaps 24. Weights 26, 27 depress the nozzles and flaps. A trough 28 collects stones &c. Fig. 10 shows a nozzle comprising a casing fitted with overlapping vertically movable plates 29, which are held down by springs or weighted levers 34 and are provided with wide wheels 32 having scraper plates 33. The plates 29 are connected to the casing 3<c> by bolts passing through slots which are covered by plate springs 31. The plates 29 may have hinged or flexible flaps The front wall of the nozzle consists of movable plates 35 held down by springs or weighted levers 36 and provided with wheels 37 to lift them over obstacles.
