Abstract

Bodies.-In order to reduce noise in an automobile, the body is formed in one with the dash-board and is flexibly supported on the frame, parts of the dash-board being cut away to clear a special member which supports the accessories usually carried by a dash-board fixed to the chassis. The body, which may be stiffened by longitudinal steel plates at each side, is connected to the dash-board b by side-pieces c. The body is hinged at its rear end e to enable it to be raised for inspection purposes, and normally rests upon rubber buffers f or other resilient devices placed near its front end. An inverted U-shaped member h secured to the chassis supports the steering-pillar k and also a plate i on which the usual dash-board accessories are mounted. The dash-board b is cut away to allow it to pass between the member h and plate i, and to enable the body to clear the steering- pillar when raised a portion of the floor such as the foot-boards n may be made removable.
