Abstract

23,485. Darlington, W. E. Nov. 5. Handles.-A chip &c. basket for fruit and vegetables is provided with a strengthening cross - bar over the mouth, either the handle itself being arranged to slide vertically to serve the purpose of a crossbar, or a cross-bar integral with or secured to the handle being provided. In each form the handle is non-pivotal and detachable, and it mav be of tin or other suitable material. When the cross-bar is separate from the handle it may be attached by passing the reduced ends 5<a> through slots in the handle and the basket as shown in Fig. 1, thus serving to secure the handle to the basket; when integral with it, the handle is secured by studs 7, Fig. 14, with expanding shanks. Similar studs 7 are used when the sliding form of handle shown in Fig. 10 is employed, the handle sliding between the sidepieces 9 and cross-pieces 10 of the chip basket.
