22,469. Lloyd, E. F. Sept. 28. Scrubbers.-A gas scrubber comprises a rectangular casing divided into compartments by pairs of partitions 2, 3, the partitions 3 having a gas passage at the top and being water-sealed at the bottom, and the partitions 2 having a gas opening near the bottom, the arrangement being that gas entering by an inlet 4 ascends in each compartment through scrubbing-material and then descends between the partitions to reach the next compartment. The scrubbing - material comprises trays of upright sheets spaced apart and resting on ledges 6. Water from a pipe 15 flows from compartment to compartment over the lower edges of the gas openings in the partitions 2 in the opposite direction to the flow of gas. A rotary or other pump withdraws water from the bottom of each compartment, and sprays it over the top of the scrubbing - material in the same compartment. An inclined plate 25 in each gas passage produces from the falling water a spray through which the gas passes. The partitions 2, 3 are spaced apart by upright posts, to which closing- doors are secured, giving access to the scrubbing- trays in each compartment.
