Abstract

22,436. Gaunt, W. F. Sept. 27. Mounts.-A military or like button is secured as an ornament to the mount of a cane &c. by means of a metal plate arranged in the mount &c., the plate being provided with spring tongues which grip the buttonshank. The arrangement described with reference to a brooch, as shown in Fig. 1, is applicable to other articles. A button 1 rests on a mount 3 attached to the backplate 6, the shank or eye 2 engaging with spring tongues 13, 14 on the metal plate 9. The mount need not be permanently fixed to the back-plate but may be clamped in position by the button. This arrangement is shown in Fig. 8 as applied to a hat-pin, the back-plate 6 which holds the gripping-plate 9 fitting into a recess in the mount 3. The mount 3 may be dispensed with altogether, as in the application of the device to the head of a cane shown in Fig. 11. In this case the button rests on the plate 9 and is encircled by the rim 16 of the cap 18.
