Abstract

22,077. Read, H. G. Sept. 23. Pen-point protectors.-The caps of fountain pens are secured in position by projections, recesses, grooves, spring arms, resilient cushions, &c., provided either on the cap or on the holder and engaging a smooth or mating portion on the holder or cap respectively. In the form shown in Fig. 1, spring tongues a provided on the cap engage the holder; these tongues may be provided with indented ends to engage recesses in the holder, and the tongues may extend to the open end of the cap. Fig. 7 shows one of several forms described, in which projections are formed on the cap or holder which engage mating recesses on the other part. According to Fig. 10, projections b on the cap engage behind ridges c on the holder. In the modification shown in Fig. 16, an annular groove d is cut in the holder to form a series of tongues e to engage the cap, and, as a further security, a projection f and recess g may be provided. In other arrangements, a piece of strip or tubular rubber is let into the holder. To give increased resilience, the caps may be provided with slits, which may or may not extend to the open end of the cap.
