Abstract

21,478. Loring, F. H. Sept. 15. Treating flour and meal with sprayed liquids; conditioning flour and meal.-Flour, semolina, wheaten stock, or the like is treated to prevent loss of water or to modify its colour, by mixing with a spray or vapour of an emulsion of oil, such as germ-oil or soya-bean oil. Other oils, preferably edible, may be used, such as oils from nuts. The oils may be heated to reduce viscosity, for example by using steam. The treatment may take place before, during, or after bleaching by nitrogen peroxide or other agent, but bleaching may be dispensed with when a dark flour is required, or when the yellow colour from the oil is advantageous. The oil may be treated with nitrogen peroxide or by any process to improve its keeping or other properties. The apparatus employed may take the form described in Specifications 17,992/09, 6721/10, or 18,330/11.
