Abstract
21,306. Electric and Ordnance Accessories Co., and Hall, R, F. Sept. 13. Roller bearings.-In a roller bearing for motorcar wheel hubs &c. of the kind having two sets of conical rollers 6, 10 running on races which abut against shoulders on the hub and axle and are tightened by an end nut 11, the relative position of the two inner races 1, 2 is determined by an adjustable distance-piece, comprising two sleeves 15, 16 screwing into a split ring 17 clamped by a bolt 18. The ring 17 and lugs 19 may be integral with one of the sleeves, the other sleeve being screwed into it. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which one sleeve screws into the other, the parts being locked together by a split ring 23 having an arm 25 engaging a hole 26 in the sleeve 15 and one of a series of slots 27 in the sleeve 16. In a modification applied to a wheel mounted on a rotating axle having a fixed bearing on each side of the wheel, each bearing has one row of conical rollers, and the distance-piece projects through packing at the inner end of the bearing case, and is adjusted by a screwed split ring abutting against the face of the wheel or against a collar on the axle.
