21,174. Sidler, L. J. Sept. 12. Plug couplings combined with electric switches. Relates to couplings for connecting an auxiliary lamp in parallel with a main lighting circuit, the plug being adapted when pushed further into the socket to actuate a switch to open the main circuit. The socket part comprises a baseplate 2, carrying a housing 5 in which the plug fits, recessed below, and provided with a central opening which is enlarged at the upper end to form a chamber 7. In the opening, a spring support 9 is mounted by means of a set-screw 8, which forms a terminal for the lead 11. Over this spring support is mounted a contact-disk 13, provided with a sleeve which is normally kept in contact, by means of the spring 15, with the contact-disk 16, which is connected to the lead 19. On the upper side of the plate 2 is mounted a cup-shaped conducting-piece 22 provided with a tubular part 23. The plug part comprises a body 31 carrying an annular contact 24 connected to the lead 38, and a central contact-pin 43 connected to the lead 47. The connexions made are shown in Fig. 1, which shows in diagrammatic form three such sockets, and the leads 47, 38 connected to a portable lamp 52. On inserting the plug a short distance in the socket, the lamp 52 is put in parallel with the lamps 51; on further insertion, the switch 16 is actuated, thus opening the lamp circuit 51.
