Abstract

20,026. Schneider, E. Aug. 27. Vessels for carrying ships; compartments.- In vessels fitted with an internal compartment or dock for transporting boats of small tonnage, the forward part is provided with a sill 15, the plating of which is on a higher level than that of the surface of the bottom of the hold. By this means, when the ballast tanks are pumped out, the sill is above the water-level, so that no water can enter the hold, and the doors &c. at the front of the vessel are out of the water when placed in the closed position.
