Abstract

18,316. Isherwood, A. Aug. 2. Shuttles; weftreplenishing mechanism.- Shuttles are provided with means whereby they may be threaded in a positive manner either by hand or automatically i n connexion with weft - replenishing mechanism, and with means for preventing the ballooning or outward overthrowing of the weft and for tensioning the weft. In one construction, the shuttle is provided with a removable transverse delivery-eye 7, Figs. 10 and 11, which has slots 8, 8<1>. The weft from the bobbin is guided by a rearwardly and downwardly extending beak on the threading-device into the slot 8, and, in the operation of threading, is drawn over an inner lip 13 into a hole 14, and is also drawn between the wood of the shuttle and a lip 15, so that it passes into the eye. The wood of the shuttle at the eye is not cut away to the depth of the lip 15, so that unthreading is prevented. The threading-block 3, Fig. 1, is provided with a guard 4, which extends over the threading-slot and has an extension 4<11> on its down-turned part. A slot 4<1> facilitates the drawing of the weft past the guard. In a modification of the delivery eye, the lip 15 is replaced by a lip 23', Fig. 15, which extends into a hole 23 formed in the eye. Another form of guard comprises a base 20, Fig. 19, held in adjustable position in slots cut in the throat of the shuttle, a vertical portion provided with an eye 22 in which the weft is held by a projection 21, and an horizontal portion 17 which extends over the delivery eye. One corner of the portion 17 enters a groove in the shuttle, and is held thereby, and a side lip fits loosely in a slot in the shuttle. The eye 22 is so positioned with respect to the hole 14 in the eye 7 as to put tension on the weft, and the tension is adjusted by turning the eye 7. In other forms of guard, portions 26, 29, Figs. 21 and 24, enter holes 28, 31 respectively in co-operating portions 27, 30. The delivery eye may be used in an automatically-threaded or a common shuttle with a flannel tensioning-device or with a metallic tensioning-device consisting of a metal pin projecting down from the threading-block and fitting in a groove in the wood of the shuttle near the eye, the weft passing the pin within the groove.
