Abstract

17,862. Belgian Pneumatic Tool Co. (Soc. Anon.). Aug. 2, 1909, [Convention date]. Percussive hand tools. -In a hand hammer or like tool, a hammerpiston 2 is reciprocated by a plenum and a partial vacuum being alternately induced behind it by a piston 1 which is reciprocated by a motor, the space between the hammer-piston 2 and the piston 1, which move in the same direction, being put in communication with a port 6 and the atmosphere at the end of each stroke either directly or through a longitudinal groove 7 and an annular groove 8. The space between the hammer 2 and the piston 1 may be opened to atmosphere through ports 22, controlled by a valve 23, so as to stop the action of the hammer without stopping the motor. The motor shown comprises a two-stroke engine. A charge from the admission port 18 passes to the crank chamber 15 provided with a handle 16 and thence through ports 21 to the combustion chamber 17. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) describes also a similarly-acting tool in which the hammer-piston 2 has a reduced portion working in a recess in the piston 1. This subject - matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
