Abstract

Travelling-band filters.-In apparatus for filtering milk, a drum 1 of perforated metal or wire mesh is surrounded bv a muslin or other fabric medium, the operative portion of which can be changed by winding the fabric from a roller 16 on to a roller 13. The liquid is poured into a recess 11 at one end of the trough 6, filters inward through the drum and leaves through a nozzle 7 which serves with a pinching-screw 9 at the other end to support the drum. The roller 16 is provided with a friction brake, and the roller 13 with ratchet holding-gear. Both these rollers and also guide rollers 14, 15 are mounted in a frame removable from the top of the trough. The drum comprises end caps 2 connected by struts 3 and when these are covered by perforated metal the ends of the resilient strip of metal so used are sprung into position against a rib on one of the struts.
