Abstract

16,707. Wagner, C. R., and Wagner, W. July 13, 1909, [Conventinn date]. Alcoholic liquids, distilling.-Relates to a method of preparing alcohol-free wines, beers, &c. and enriching them with the aromatic constituents of the original beverages, in which the liquid is submitted to fractional distillation in vessels A under diminished pressure produced by a pump K. In the first stage, when the temperature is low and the evacuation slight, aromatic vapours only are withdrawn and pass through absorption vessels g<1>, g<2> containing a mixture of alcohol-free beverage and sugar. In the second stage, with higher temperature and greater evacuation, alcoholic vapours together with aromatic substances are evolved. The absorption vessels g<1>, g<2> are closed by the three-way cocks c<1>, c<2>, and by means of the cocks c<3>, c<4>, c<5> the vapours are caused to pass through a condenser D, which separates the alcohol, and absorption vessels g<3>, g<4>, which separate the aromatic substances. In the third stage, when alcohol vapour only is given off, the absorption vessels g<3>, g<4> are closed and the vapours are condensed in the condenser D. The liquid in the absorption vessels may be renewed while the vessels are out of use, and a second distillation vessel be connected by a three-way cock c<6> so as to obtain uninterrupted working. Specification 7732/08 is referred to.
