Abstract
16,536. Plaisted, D. E. July 11. Lenses, grinding. -A machine for grinding cylindrical, toric, and other lenses is constructed with a fixed grinding-bed over which the lens is worked with a bodily circular motion and a simultaneous transverse motion. The grinding-bed D is carried on a table B<1>, and the lens E is supported in a holder F carried by a ball and socket from one of two arms H. A fork I pivotally connected with the lens-holder prevents rotation of the latter. The arm H is adjustable about a bearing K<2> in a standard K, and is spring - pressed downwards to hold the lens in contact with the grinding - bed. The standard K is carried by an arm K<6> having at its ends pins engaging crank disks on wheels N', whereby the arm K<6> and with it the lens may receive a bodily circular motion. The carriage O carrying the above mechanism is moved to and fro transversely to give a second movement to the lens by a wheel Q<1> carrying a pin engaging a slide R<2> moving in fixed guides. By adjusting the pins, the extent of the circular and transverse motions of the lens may be determined. The pin G carrying the lens-holder may be adjusted transversely in the end of the arm H.
