Abstract
15,630. Marks, E. C. R., [Butler, W. J.]. Sept. 20, 1909. [Addition to 3705/09.] Sewing-machines; lock-stitching by hooks.- Improved hook and spool - case mechanism is provided for use in machines of the type described in the parent Specification. A rotary hook 58 is mounted on a shaft 55 driven by bevel gearing from the under-shaft of the machine, and is provided with an upper hook 59, a circumferential catch 61, and a lower hook 62. The base has a rim 64 provided with a gap in front of the hook 62, and with an internal groove, part of the rim being removable to permit the withdrawal of the spool-case 67, which has a rim 72 engaging the groove. The spool-case 67 carries an ordinary spool of thread on a central pin integral with the base, and is held from rotation by a lug 74 engaging a slot 75 in the underside of the needle-plate 76. A tension spring 77<a> and tension holes 79, 80<a>, 81 are provided, and the rib 72 has a portion cut away and is formed into a hook 82, behind which is a notch 83. The needle-loop 60 is first entered by the hook 59, and is then spread until it is caught by the lower hook 62, and its inner side held by the hook 82 or the notch 83 while its outer side is carried round by the catch 61 to form a lock with the thread of the spool.
