Abstract
14,455. Wojciechowski, J. June 15. Screw propellers.-In aerial machines fitted with at least two raising-screws rotating in opposite directions, the screws are constructed so that the blades may have an oscillatory movement imparted to them during rotation, in such a manner that a resultant forward or backward thrust may be exerted, giving the vessel a movement of translation as well as of elevation. The blades 1 are mounted in journals 3 attached to the boss 4, and united to a ring 2, in which is pivoted a strap 6 embracing a sheave 7 pivoted on the shaft 5. When the blades 1 are rotated. the strap 6 is rotated also, tilting the ring 2 and thus varying the inclination of the blades in each revolution. The inclination of the sheave 7 is adjusted by the rod 12 so that the blades are horizontal when moving in a direction opposite to that of the machine, and at their maximum inclination when moving in the same direction as the machine.
