B r i n e, concentrating. - Brine is purified prior to evaporation by a process, comprising electrolysis and carbonation, similar to that described in Specification 19,302/08. Steam from generators A drives non-condensing engines C coupled with dynamos E, which supply the electrolytic cells F, F<1>, F<2>. The exhaust steam, which may be superheated, is supplied to the vacuum evaporators D. The electrolyzed brine is led to a carbonator I and thence to mixers G, G<1>, G<2>, G<3>, into which the brine to be purified is led, and the purified brine is drawn off to a tank L which feeds the evaporators D by pipes d, d<1>. Heaters N may be provided on the branches of the pipe d'.
