Abstract

10,623. Howden & Co., J., and Howden, J. April 30. Doors; baffles.- In a locomotive furnace in which air under forced draught is supplied through the door - opening, means are provided for deflecting the air current on to the fuel while the door is closed, the deflector being raised by opening the door so as to permit of freely firing the furnace. The deflector comprises a curved, bent, or other suitably-shaped plate A, carried by and depending from a rocking-shaft B and bent downwards and inwards so as to direct air from the usual casing C on to the fuel. The shaft B is operated from the door spindle F through mitre wheels E, E', an arm I, and a link H jointed to an arm G on the shaft B. The deflector is counterbalanced by a weight K.
