Abstract

9495. Pelterie, R. Esnault-. April 20, 1909, [Convention date]. Steering and balancing.-Relates to an aeroplane having the supporting - planes or wings elastically mounted on the frame and connected with front or rear elevators or both, so that the angular movements of the planes are transmitted inversely to the elevators, and consists in providing means for moving the planes and elevators reversely by hand, and for varying their relative inclination. The flexible supporting-plane a is pivoted at b, and is controlled by a spring c so that the incidence of the planes automatically varies with the wind pressure. The plane is connected by the links shown to a rear elevator e, so that this moves oppositely to the plane a. The inclination of the elevator relatively to the plane a can -be adjusted by a lever p connected to a lever r and the lever p is locked in position after adjustment. The inclination of the elevator and the plane can be manually adjusted by a lever n<1> connected to a lever l<1> pivoted at m<1> and connected to the link i<3>. The lever p for adjusting the elevator independently can be dispensed with. The wires p<1>, Fig. 3, for warping the planes can be connected to the operating-lever r<1> by springs q<1> to allow automatic movement, or the wires may pass around a spring-mounted pulley. The lever r<1> may be mounted to turn on horizontal and vertical axes, as described in Specification 15,637/09. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), describes also modifications in which the hand-operating devices p, n<1>, Fig. 2, are dispensed with, the plane and elevator being connected by bell-crank levers and links. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
