Abstract

8279. Bench, G. E. April 6. Cranks, variable-throw. - In variable-throw cranks for cycles &c. of the type in which a pedal crank A carries the pedal at one end and rotates about a boss or disk C eccentric to the driving spindle K which is engaged by a driving crank B, the centre of the boss C is placed forward of the spindle K, which rotates within another boss E integral with or separate from either the boss C or the framing of the machine. One end of the driving crank B is carried by the pedal spindle G, ball bearings H being interposed, and the other end is slotted to pass over the flattened end of the driving spindle. Roller bearings R enclosed by a washer 0 and secured by a screw P are provided on the spindle end D. The strap revolving on the boss C is provided with ball bearings adjustable by means of a screwed ring T. The spindle is in two parts joined by a screwed coupling L and secured in place by a pin M. The coupling is flanged at N for the attachment of the driving-wheel I.
