Abstract

8241. Bates, B. W., and Southan, A. E. Nov. 12, 1909. [Cognate Application, 27,510/09.] Targets. - Relates to kinematograph targets of the kind in which the bullet holes are indicated by lights at the back of the screen, as described in Specification 24,329/09, and consists in the use of a double or multiple screen of cardboard, paper, or the like, the parts of the screen being relatively movable for the purpose of obliterating or closing the shot holes. In the arrangement shown in plan in Fig. 2, paper is unwound from a reel 1 and wound on a reel 2 and passes round guide rollers 3, 5. An independent .sheet 7. may be arranged to move vertically between the horizontally-moving parts 4 ofthe screen, but this sheet may be dispensed with. In a modification shown in elevation in Fig. 3, the supply and storage reels 11, 12 are mounted in slotted bearings and are pressed together by springs so that one reel rotates the other. Instead of using a single strip returned on itself, two separate strips may be drawn in opposite directions from feed reels, or two sheets of paper in frames may be moved angularly, or the strip may be returned on itself more than once. The paper is preferably opaque, or may be coated with an opaque paint to prevent any passage of light except through the bullet holes.
