Abstract

Casting - m a c h i n e s ; moulds. - A casting-machine for small articles has an improved powercharging apparatus operated by hand. A fire-brick lined furnace a<2> heated by an air and gas burner b contains a metal pot c having an opening c<4> into a cylinder c<2>. The piston c<3>, in descending, closes the opening c<4> and forces the charge through the valve d into the mould. The piston and valve a r e successively o p e r a t e d from a power shaft k through cranks and levers by the closing of a clutch by the hand-lever p<2>. The time interval between these two operations can be varied by adjusting the parts m<6>, k<8> along their levers n<6>, d'. The valve d is conical and held in place by an adjustable spring, and the port d<2> is formed in its side so that the metal therein is always in contact with the molten metal in the pot. The mould consists of two parts f<3>, f<4> sliding on bars f and operated by levers i<2>, j<3>. After casting, the runner is cut off and ejected, in two steps as defined by the stop s, by the rod h<3>, Fig. 6, actuated by a lever g<5>.
