Abstract

7917. Richards, W. E. W. April 1. Fibrous plastic compositions. - A plastic mouldable composition is produced by incorporating asbestos, with or without fillers, with artificially solidified tar prepared as described in Specification 16,908/09, [Class 91, Oils &c.], or similar products, such as dehydrated tar, with the aid of heat. If desired, the following solvents may be employed, namely toluene, turpentine, xylene, carbon disulphide, chloroform, naphtha, kerosene, petrol, or terebenum. The preferred proportions are two parts of asbestos to one of tar product. The substances are mixed in a closed chamber at a temperature of from 250-450‹ F., and the composition is then moulded. Small quantities of rubber solution may be added. Specification 1645/09, [Class 87 (ii), Moulding plastic &c. substances], is referred to.
