Abstract
7667. Moorshead, A. L. March 30, 1909, [Convention date]. Railway plat forms and stations.-The roof of a railway station is supported on columns placed between adjacent tracks, so as to leave the platforms unobstructed, and a minimum space is provided above the engine funnels so that the smoke may quickly escape. nubways tor goods or local trains may be built under the platforms. Fig. 1 shows a sectional elevation of one form of roof, of which Fig. 4 shows an enlarged detail. The columns 12 are arranged between the pairs of tracks 10 and support the roof principals 15. Baffleplates 18 deflect the smoke through apertures 26. Skylights 21 extend on each side of the ridge of each span, with or without impervious roofing 22. The valleys are covered by portions 24 which are carried by brackets on the longitudinal girders 16. Rain-water is drained off by gutters 19, 25 leading to fall pipes adjacent to alternate columns. In the modification shown in Fig. 13, the valley is formed at a lower level between the skylights 21a; the gutter 19a communicates with the portion 24<a> by short troughs which bridge the smoke outlet 26a. A snow guard 34 may be provided as shown. The entire framework consists of steel plates and angle bars riveted together and covered with concrete.
