6438. Mathys, A. W., [Deer Co., A. J.]. March 15. Disk and like mills.-The grinding-disks 7, 8, Figs. 1 and 2, of a coffee mill are provided with intermeshing concentric rows of teeth 9, V-shaped at their outer ends and arranged in groups occupying segments of the disks. The cutting-ends of the teeth of each group are arranged on parallel lines a, b, c, d, Fig. 5, extending tangentially from circles near the centre of the disk, the tangential lines of the groups on one disk crossing those of the groups on the other disk. The teeth are pyramidal in shape, with the front walls or faces perpendicular to the faces of the disks. The stationary disk 7 is slightly concave, and some of the teeth are removed to provide staggered feeding-recesses 12, while the rotary disk 8 is provided with straight recesses 13, the outer row of teeth on each disk being unbroken.
