Abstract

6294. Hollingsworth, S. March 12. Folding-paper.-A rotary folder of the kind in which a blade tucks the paper or fabric into jaws on a cylinder is constructed so as to prevent tearing strains during the folding. A tucking-blade 6 is mounted so as to have a central bearing in the bottom of a slot in a cylinder 1 and the blade is held in position by studs 8 surrounded by springs 7 which normally keep the blade against the lefthand side of the slot, as shown in Fig. 4. The blade 6 thrusts the paper between fixed jaws 11 and jaws 9 on a gripper bar 10, which is oscillated by a cam 14 and a roller 13 on an arm 12. The jaws 9 move in the opposite direction to their cylinder 2, and carry the blade 6 with them, so that during the folding the blade 6 is practically stationary relatively to the web and there is little strain on the web. The folded leaves are brought together by a roller 16, and the folded product is removed by strippers 17 acting in grooves in the cylinder 2.
