Abstract

5562. Walker, A., and Burrell, E. R. March 5. Roller mills.-A machine for the fine grinding of paste substances such as paint, soap, chocolate, &c , consists of three or more rollers driven by worm or screw gearing D, E, Figs. 2 and 3, from a side shaft F, one or more of the rollers receiving an endlong movement. A slotted plate L mounted on a pivoted arm L<1> engages a collar K on the spindle of the central roller, and the arm L<1> is operated by the pin of an eccentric M mounted on a spindle M<1>, which is driven by worm gearing M<2> from the shaft F. The shaft F is journaled in bearings G in a gear case H, which forms an oil bath. The driving-pulley J is mounted on one of the roller spindles ; or one end of the shaft F may project beyond the case H and carry a pulley J'. The shaft F maybe driven directly by an electric motor.
