Wick burners; burners, preventing conduction of heat from.- In an oil lamp or stove in which conduction of heat from the flame to the oil-reservoir is prevented by isolating the ignition point of the wick from the wick-tube by means of a casing or sleeve arranged so that the portion of the wick between the casing and the wick-tube is exposed to the outside air, inclined deflectors 7, Fig. 11, within the casing direct the induced current of air passing upwards through the casing on the exposed part of the wick. The casing 3 is formed with upwardly converging ends and sides, is open at the top and bottom, and is provided with a longitudinal socket 6 engaging over the end of the wick-tube. The wick 5 is raised so that it just passes through the upper end of the casing, a small space being left between the edge of the casing and the wick. In a modification, the casing may be enclosed within a second casing having its walls parallel to those of the inner casing and with its top end above the top of the wick.
