Revolving-cylinder pumps.-In a pump or fluid-pressure motor of the revolving-cylinder type having the axes of the cylinders arranged parallel to the axis of rotation, the end thrust exerted by the fluid upon the end of the rotating barrel is taken up by ball or other antifriction bearings so that excessive wear of the valve-port faces is avoided. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the rotating barrel A containing the cylinders A<1> is formed with a reduced portion a containing ports A<2> which engage with inlet and outlet ports formed in a separate valve member C. The end thrust on the barrel is taken by ball bearings D disposed between the shoulder of the barrel A and the outer casing, and the valve C is pressed against the end of the barrel with sufficient force to secure a fluid-tight joint by pressure fluid, which is admitted from the pump delivery to an annular chamber c'. Lubricating-oil is circulated through the casing by the pump E and pipe c<2>, packing e<3> being provided to prevent the oil from mixing with the fluid in the motor or pump, or vice versa. In a modification, the ports A<2> are arranged radially in an extension of the barrel A, and the inlet and outlet ports are correspondingly arranged in the casing.
