4592. Kruskopf, H. Feb. 24. Dust-laying compositions. - For preventing explosions in coal mines due to coal dust, the walls of the galleries are covered with a hygroscopic lye, such as calcium or magnesium chloride solution which has been rendered thick and pasty by the addition of calcium hydrate, starch, clay, vegetable glue, &c. Sheets of fabric may be attached to the walls, and the composition sprinkled thereon. The composition may be applied with a trowel, or by means of a compressed-air sprinkling-device.
