4555. Cary, S. C. Feb. 23. [Addition to 22,522/08.] Carpets and mats.-Metallic fabrics for floor coverings or mats, composed of units as described in the parent Specification, are reinforced at the edges, and are provided with inserts or filling-pieces. A folded or channelled strip D, Figs. 1 and 2, is placed at the edges of the fabric, and is arranged to be flush with the upper and lower edges of the units b, b<1>. The links C are extended beyond the units, and are bevelled or shaped as shown in Fig. 4. The tongues g<2> are passed through the member D, and are bent over to secure it. Suitably-shaped inserts or filling-pieces F, of material such as the tiling used in mosaic floors, or pieces of variously-coloured rubber, are secured between adjacent units by means of metal strips or wires, which are passed through the inserts and bent round the rods B. The inserts may be vulcanized to the wires or strips. When rubber inserts are used, they project beyond the upper and lower edges of the units and give the fabric resiliency. A name-plate I, I<1> may be provided in a unit.
