Abstract
2733. Lake, W. E., [Simmons, W. H.]. Feb. 3. Disk mills.-In a pig-feeding apparatus provided with a grinding-mill, the animal pushes its nose into pockets in the feeding-trough, causing it to revolve and thereby to actuate the mill, the ground food passing to the trough. A trough 4 is provided with a series of obliquely-arranged wings 11, which with a series of openings 10 in a cylinder 9, registering with adjustable openings 8 in a cylinder 7, form feed pockets into which the nose of the pig is inserted. Mounted on the base of the trough which is supported on a spindle 2 revolving in a base 1, is a drum 7 carrying a hopper 14, to the bottom of which is secured a burr ring 16 provided with a central opening 15. A lower burr 17 is secured to a block provided with a transverse slot for the reception of a pin 19 passing through the shaft 2. To the cross-arm 3 on the shaft 2 is attached a loop 24 supported by a rod 21 secured to a spring 20, which passes through the walls of the hopper 14 and is fixed to the cylinder by hooked arms 25.
