2689. Dixon, E. Feb. 3. [Addition to 23,776/05.] Direct steam-pressure apparatus, automatic.- In apparatus of the type described in the parent Specification wherein the steam-valve is operated bv a cord attached at one end to a Boat in the forcing-chamber and at the other end to a weight, the tappets for operating the valve are mounted upon a disk around which the cord passes, and the tumbling lever for effecting definite movement of the valve is replaced by a spring device. The tappets E<1>, E<2> are adjustably mounted in a groove E<5> in the disk E, and contact with a lever J connected to a spring-pressed piston K<1>. As soon as the lever J passes its lowest position, the piston K<1> forces it rapidly into one or other of its upper positions, whereupon lugs H<1>, H<2>, formed on a sleeve H connected to the lever J, contact with a lever M<2>, which operates the steam valve F through a link N. In order to prevent too violent movement of the sleeve H, the cylinder L in which the piston K<1> works is partly filled with oil or glycerine, which passes through a hole in the piston.
